Modul 1 - The beginning

2017-03-20

TL;DR version: I learned the very basic steps and elements of studying, then I took a good look at time-management advice, which was pretty cool.

The first module started off with an obvious, but interesting proposition, which had multiple points.

It differenciates between thinking about learning, and the process of actually doing it.
Also, there were two good tips for people who (like me) have no idea about studying and learning. They were
- There is no method that guarantees success
- There is no method that works for everyone, so you have to find your own.

I had a faint idea that this would be the case, but did not think much of it.

Then there is the first big question, which I found quite thought provoking.

-What do you hope to get from studying? Why are you studying?

The course gives a few examples here, some people do it for praise, promotion, money, to increase their self-esteem and confidence. I on the other hand honestly have no good reason other than chasing a dream as old as myself. Of course, this applies to other areas, not only academic skills and university studies.

Then we go into details about the four basic principles, the majority of which was unbeknownst to me beforehand.

-Preparing, which consists of analysing, making a plan, and gathering resources (Which would be better off with exploring (?) )
-Exploring, which includes studying the materials, and monitoring progress
-implementing, basically meaning monitoring your own progress, and self-assessing.
-Reviewing, which I liked and knew about previously, as it helped the most with projects. It is always nice to have an outside spectator give opinion and feedback.

After the basics are done, the course moves on to something akin to Lifelong learning, with Working Life.

This is again, something that I kind of knew about before, but never really ventued into the dephts.

It was definitely worth it. Gave an awful lot of description, tips, and advice on how to manage time better,

I like the fact that the course stops you and makes you think about your own experiences, which is a good way to reflect on things, and helps to understand everything better.

This looks good so far.
